A Fair Budget

We believe that Florida’s budget should be balanced fairly and equitably, not on the backs of middle class families. Florida unfairly places most of our state’s tax responsibility on the middle class instead of those who can afford to pay. We’re fighting for Florida because our state’s tax system must reward hard work, and not just wealth.

Good Jobs

We believe that with Florida’s high unemployment rate, Floridians deserve good jobs. These jobs should pay well and provide quality benefits to provide security for Floridians and their families. We’re fighting for Florida because good jobs are the foundation for strong families, strong communities, and a strong economy.

 

Protecting Universal Public Education

We believe successful public schools are well-funded public schools whose students, parents, and teachers are strongly supported by their communities and their political leaders. We’re fighting for Florida against the ongoing campaign to undermine our public schools, particularly the hard work of our teachers, support personnel, and students.

 

Access To Quality Health Care

We believe Floridians have a right to access quality, affordable health care without interference by profit or privatization. We’re fighting against a strategy to hand Medicaid to profit-driven HMOs. We’re fighting for Florida to keep hard-won reforms that protect consumers from the worst abuses of insurance companies and HMOs.

Preserving Essential Collective Bargaining Rights

We believe that Floridians have a right to collectively bargain with their employers for fair wages and benefits. Floridians have a right to join a union in their workplace and contribute to its activities. We’re fighting for Florida because attacks on these essential rights attack Florida’s middle class and our quality of life.

A Strong Safety Net

We believe that when Floridians fall on hard times and lose their jobs, they must have access to unemployment insurance and other benefits to provide a measure of stability between jobs. We’re fighting for Florida to ensure our state’s 70-year old unemployment insurance system provides easier eligibility and stronger temporary benefits.

A Secure Retirement

We believe that Floridians who work throughout their lives deserve a stable, secure retirement. Working people should not have to worry whether or not they’ll be able to retire. We’re fighting for Florida against the assault on public employee pensions and retirement benefits of middle class Floridians.
